Christmas opening hours

The following arrangements are in place for urgent GP appointments over the christmas period.

The cover in place is to facilitate patients who become ill over the christmas period and need urgent GP care.

We will not be able to facilitate routine GP appointments, routine prescriptions or admin requests during the festive period. We request that all routine prescriptions are ordered as soon as possible. If you run out of tablets, pharmacists have discretion to issue you an emergency supply.

Sligo University Hospital & Mayo University Hospital emergency departments remain open 24 hours over the christmas period and will continue to deal with emergencies. There is no cost for attending the emergency department without a GP letter, this fee was abolished in 2023. If you are too unwell to get to the emergency department by yourself, you can call an ambulance on 999.

For minor injuries (twists, sprains, cuts, bites, cuts, abscesses, suspected broken bones) Roscommon Injury Unit will remain open (090 663 2212) Mon-Sun 8am to 8pm. This service is for anyone over the age of 5. This unit is not equipped to deal with serious/life threatening emergencies. Instead patients should attend Sligo or Mayo Emergency Departments. Click here for a full list of injuries that will be dealt with in Roscommon Injury Unit.
